I was born in Nova Friburgo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  I'm the result of a mixture between a German father and a Brazilian mother.  So if you were wondering the reason for the Schmidt, now you know why... From 1977 until 1987 I studied at Colegio Anchieta.  In 1988 I moved from Nova Friburgo to Rio de Janeiro (also known as the Wonderful City)  to get ready to start  my undergrad studies. I lived in Rio until 1997.

I lived in England from September 1997 until July 2001. There, I lived in Nottingham for one year, then I moved to Sheffield. In Sheffield, besides the  Ph.D.  program, I took part in the committee of the Sheffield's Brazilian Society  for 2 years. It was a great experience, specially for having the opportunity to show people a bit more of the Brazilian culture. During this time in England I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. It has been just great to learn about some other cultures. But I have to confess that one of the greatest moments of this period was the  CarnaSheffield 99. It was absolutely wonderful to see nearly 900 people dancing different Brazilian rhythms without having being exposed to it before. Between 2001 and 2002 I lived in Connecticut, USA. Since August 2002 I have been living in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

During my spare time  I love to listen to music, to go to the movies or sit for a good chat with close friends. I also love to travel, besides Rio de Janeiro, my favorite cities are Buenos Aires, Cape Town, London, Paris, Prague and San Francisco (in alphabetical order).
