I am a Professor of Statistics at the Department of Statistics of
the Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Currently, I am the head of the Graduate Program of the Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
I obtained my first
degree in Statistics in 1994 , and in 1996, I obtained my MSc. degree in
Statistics, both from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I
finished my Ph.D. in Statistics in June 2001 at the University of
Sheffield, UK. There, I worked with Professor Anthony O'Hagan on Bayesian
modeling of heterogenous spatial covariance structures. Between 2001 and
2002, I was a Post-Doc in the Department of Statistics at the University
of Connecticut, Storrs, USA. I worked with Professor Alan E. Gelfand on
some interesting problems on Spatial Statistics.
I am a research fellow of
the Mathematics' Committee of CNPq. I supervise both M.Sc. and Ph.D.
students.
I have published papers in the
JRSS B, Applied Statistics (JRSS C), AOAS, Environmetrics, Test, Technometrics, among other journals.
In 2008, I was awarded with the
Abdel El-Shaarawi Young Investigator Award, from The International
Environmetrics Society (TIES).
From
January until
March 2007, I was a visiting professor at the Department of Statistics,
Colorado State University, USA. Between May, 2010 and March, 2011, I
was a visiting professor at the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics,
McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
I am an Associate Editor of
the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, Environmetrics, Brazilian Journal of Probability and Statistics and Stat.
I was an invited speaker at the
following international meetings:
8th WCPS 2012 (Istanbul), ISI 2011 (Dublin), JSM 2011 (Miami), 9th Valencia Meeting (Benidorm,
2010), TIES 2009 (Bologna), ISBA 2008 (Hamilton Island,

speaker at the following meetings: SINAPE (2002, 2006), Brazilian Bayesian
Meeting (2004,2006,2012), School on Time Series Models (2005), SEAGRO
(2001,2003,2005,2007), School on Regression Models (2003,2013).
I gave seminars at the following Universities abroad: University of California
at Santa Cruz (USA), Graduate School of Business of the University of
Chicago (USA), University of Sheffield (UK), University of Warwick (UK),
Università di Roma "La Sapienza" (Italy), Universidad Rey Juan
Carlos (Spain), Universidad de la Republica (Uruguai), McGill University (Canada).
And in Brazil I gave seminars at the following universities:
Unicamp, UFPE, UFSCar, UNESP, USP, UnB.
I
was an elected board member of the International Society for Bayesian
Analysis (2007-2009). And, between 2009 and 2011, I was a member of the
Program Council of ISBA. I was an elected member of the board of
the Brazilian Statistical Society (2007-2010).
I was the president (2008-2010) of the
Brazilian chapter (ISBrA) of the International Society for Bayesian
Analysis (ISBA), and the chair of
the 10th Brazilian Bayesian Meeting (EBEB
